Created by Portugal Jewels, the Engawa collection is inspired by the iconic roof of the newly inaugurated Gulbenkian Modern Art Center (Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian - CAM), designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Much like the architecture it celebrates, with its harmonious transition between interior and exterior spaces, the collection moves fluidly between the past and the future. It blends traditional Portuguese jewelry techniques with contemporary design, presenting pieces that honor Portugal's heritage while embracing a modern aesthetic.
Necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and pins in silver and gold-plated silver evoke the fluidity and boldness of the new CAM in beautiful geometric shapes. According to Joana Basto Gomes, founder of Portugal Jewels, the aim is to merge tradition with modernity and integrate art into daily life, just as the Gulbenkian Foundation has done for decades.
